Natural Selection

What Is It?

Natural Selection is " one of the basic mechanisms of evolution"(University of Berkeley). It is the process "that results in the adaptation of an organism to its environment by means of selectively reproducing changes in its genotype, or genetic constitution"(Britannica).

Individual's Have Specific Traits

Certain individual species can have specific individual traits to give them an advantage to survive. A good example would be the "Old World Babbler" species of bird. Some of the birds in this species build "dome nests
while others build open, cup-shaped ones" (Article). Each type of nest is beneficial in different ways and can be better/worse in different environments.

Explanation

The photo above explains the adaptation that occurred so that more mice can survive in that environment. The birds killing off most of the population of mice forced the organisms to evolve/adapt so that their species can continue. If the black mice started to die, the species would evolve/adapt once again to continue it's survival.
